2014 Season - Week 18

BUMS Wildcard Weekend

Incredibly every single game where both teams were supplied was won by the underdog. Defending BUMSBowl champion Wayne defeated new BUMS Champion Johnnie 27-21 putting up the second highest score of the week. That was equalled by Daz (27-17 over Marcus) and AP (27-16 over H). Two years ago David Stamp shocked the world as his 16th seeded Wellington Windy Bums defeated the number 1 seed, Langley Raptors and last year he repeated the feet beating record setting Marcus, the Aotearoa Maori Bro’s downing Phoenix Fire Warriors 27-7. This year his Wildcard upsets run continued as he defeated Aaron 23-11. In the battle of HQ Mrs Chief bested Chief 21-18. So Craig (who set the weeks highest score with 36 points), Mark and Ron should all count themselves lucky that they did not face a team provided by their opposition. As a result those higher seeds continue on into the Divisional round. In the draft order tie breakers David S will pick second and John third, while the decision to see who picks 7th and 8th continues as both AP and Daz have progressed to the next round. So the Divisional round is Craig (2) v Wayne (16), Mark (4) plays David S (14), Ron (5) takes on Cheryl (11) and AP (9) hosts Daz (10) in what will also be their draft pick decider. Teams to me by 10am Saturday. NFL Wildcard Weekend Saturday saw a real defensive battle as Carolina outlasted Arizona 27-16 before Baltimore came from behind to shock the Steelers in Pittsburgh 30-17. On Sunday Indianapolis controlled Cincinnati (26-10) but it was a shame to see key players on the sideline of all those losing teams. What would Arizona with Carson Palmer at Quarterback, Pittsburgh with Le’Veon Bell at Running Back and Cincinnati with AJ Green at Wide Receiver been able to do? The final game was the best of the round but marred by a very strange refereeing decision as a flag for pass interference which would have kept Detroit’s late drive alive was eventually picked up, even though it was clearly pass interference (as agreed by the NFL’s head of officiating later). Dallas held on to win 24-20 and so it’s Baltimore @ New England & Indianapolis @ Denver in the AFC and Carolina @ Seattle & Dallas @ Green Bay in the NFC Divisional round. BUMS on Seats Due to Saturday Night Fever (well a fiftieth birthday party) we will meet at HQ from 2pm on Sunday to watch as live the two Saturday games (Baltimore @ New England and Carolina’s visit to Seattle). This will be followed at around 7pm by Dallas @ Green Bay. We will be at Johnnies on Monday from 6pm for the second Sunday game Indianapolis @ Denver. As always all are welcome just let the hosts know. DON’T FORGET TO SEND YOUR DIVISIONAL TEAM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!
